It's an easy mindset to fall into, especially when you're first diagnosed, but I need everyone to know that just because your illness or disability is lifelong, it doesn't mean that your life is always going to be bad. I just passed my 8 year anniversary of getting diagnosed, and tonight I baked a batch of my favorite chocolate chip cookies sitting on the kitchen counter while my wonderful girlfriend handed me the ingredients. Disability does not doom you to misery and isolation forever.

I have one of the big scary life limiting diagnoses (muscular dystrophy caused by mitochondrial myopathy) and I use a ventilator for respiratory support. I can't get on and off the toilet alone.

I also did 10 miles in a hiking wheelchair and am training for a para triathlon. I have a garden and bake bread, chickens, I can sew and spin yarn and I have a spouse who loves me for who I am. Life is way better than it was a decade ago when I first started getting sick and even though I'm getting sicker and sicker, life is still getting even better.

It's being estimated that the spaceX launch, lacking the regulation and oversight of NASA launches, might have wiped out as much as 4% of the population of the federally protected Piping Plovers who's nesting site was within the effected area of the launch blast.
